Lancashire County Council names Wrightington and West Lancashire on the Stage 2 corridor, on the run from Chorley towards Merseyside. This is the plain: flat, open and quick, the part of the day where a breakaway either holds on or is swallowed.
It is the one part of the Lancashire section where watching the race and watching the finish are compatible. The stage ends on The Strand in Liverpool, beneath the Three Graces, and from West Lancashire that is a short hop rather than a cross-county trek. Anyone who wants to see the peloton in the county and then the sprint on the waterfront should be looking at rooms here.
The usual caveat applies with more force on a flat stage. Riders come through faster here than anywhere else in Lancashire, so pick a spot with a long sightline, get there early, and accept that the closure list which will decide all of this has not been published.
